The Section of Orthopaedic Surgery at the University of Calgary offers a variety of fellowship training experiences to licensed orthopaedic surgeons who desire subspecialized training. The application deadlines vary for each fellowship program. Inquires should be directed to: cfjaages@ucalgary.ca

Fellowship Application
Procedure for International Medical Graduates (IMG)
Background
1. Candidates must be eligible for placement on a Register with the
College of Physicians & Surgeons of Alberta (CPSA), (Associate Dean,
Postgraduate Medical Education (PGME) to arrange upon receipt of
documentation).
2. Immigration requirements must be met.
3. Candidates must pay the University of Calgary tuition fee as
established by the Board of Governors.
4. The candidate will be listed in the Category of Fellow as defined
by CAPER which is as follows: "A post-MD trainee who is registered
with the Postgraduate Medical Education Office of a University
Faculty of Medicine and who, regardless of the source of funding, is
pursuing training which will NOT be evaluated by supervising faculty
for the purpose of Canadian licensure, or certification by the
College of Family Physicians of Canada, la Corporation
professionelle des medecins du Quebec, or the Royal College of
Physicians and Surgeons of Canada".
5. The candidate will not be required to pay a Faculty educational
fee. Only IMG's officially enrolled in a Royal College or CFPC
program (ie Saudi Arabians) will pay a Faculty Fee in addition to
the University's tuition fee.
Specifics
1.The residency education program director will be responsible for:
a) assuring the quality and supervision of the educational program
b) maintaining records on the trainee c) all communication with the
office of PGME about the trainee d) keeping their residency
education committee fully informed about the individuals appointed
to these programs and their impact on the educational activities of
the department e) assisting the candidate in obtaining self-funded
health care coverage through Alberta Health and providing
documentation to the Office of PGME) assisting the candidate in
obtaining medicolegal coverage through CMPA ad providing
documentation to the Office of PGME g) requesting a $1.00 contract
for the trainee using the usual PGME application form.
2. Application for contract requests must be co-signed by the
Department Head and supported by the VP Medicine of the involved
teaching hospital(s).
3. Candidates will be responsible for arranging their own financial
support.
4. Candidates are not eligible to receive any type of financial
support (direct or indirect including but not limited to funding for
travel to attend meetings, self assessment exams, computer fees etc)
from the Office of PGME.
